Subject: New MacOS X installer for 4.23f12gbs.7
I have just released on Sourceforge a first try at making an OS X installer
package for the Csound GBS binaries. Hopefully, this will make it much
easier for OS X users to get a working command-line Csound on their system.
(We all have John Ramsdell to thank for making the wonderful GBS source
distribution which compiles SO nicely on OS X now :)

The file release is in the csoundmac package on Sourceforge. Any and all
feedback about this new mode of distribution will be greatly appreciated.

Please be sure to read the ReadMe.txt before installing. And note that if
you install somewhere other than the default location (/usr/local), then
Apple's installer may do funky things. (The installer creates a complete
tree of subdirectories under /usr/local if necessary and will likely try to
do the same if you install somewhere wierd like /. If you want the binaries
in /usr/bin, I think you will have to choose /usr as the installation root
but this is untested).

Release notes:

Csound Installer for MacOS X
Version 4.23f12gbs.7

This is a binary package for MacOS X of the GNU Build System
distribution of canonical Csound.

The binaries enclosed here were compiled on a Mac running OS X 10.2.8
using GCC 3.1 and without any support for real-time MIDI, FLTK, or X11
graphics. They will probably work on 10.2 or greater. Real-time audio
is broken in this release but should be working in the near future.

This is a command-line version of Csound. You will need an administrator
password to install.

John Ramsdell's release notes:

                         Csound 4.23f12gbs.7

This release corresponds to John ffitch's 4.23f12 release. It
contains the seventh minor revision of the original GNU Build System
4.23f12 release.

With this release, FL opcodes work on Windows. See the ChangeLog for
more details.

The GBS version of Csound is designed to provide an easily installed,
platform independent version of Csound capable of supporting Windows
and a variety of Unix-like platforms, including Linux and Mac OSX.
Windows is supported using MinGW/MSYS, but Cygwin will also work.

The Csound source distribution will produce an FLTK enabled build if
FLTK is installed, and its configuration script is available to the
build. You configure Csound to build a shared library or a DLL, as it
will build only static libraries by default. See the README for details.

The Csound RPM was compiled with FLTK enabled.

The flCsound Windows installer contains Csound with a simple GUI. This
is the easiest way to install Csound on Windows.

The Csound ZIP file contains binaries generated on Windows XP using
MinGW and MSYS.
