I fiddled around using DC with the WAD also and came to the same 
conclusion.  It's super for audio, OK as a DC mangler, but as you say 
the offsets go all over the place.  Even with inverting & scaling 
patched in to clean things up, it wasn't the ticket for precise DC work.

On the other hand,  dedicated tweaking & experimenting can turn up some 
amazing things.  You just need the time to play with it.
