An arpeggiator will repeat however many notes you are holding down,
and then repeat - so if  you're holding three, five, six, etc. notes
down and you're playing in 4/4 time, the arp will cycle against the
beat and you'll get what you describe above.

You can do this in Live, too; just make your MIDI clips an odd number
of beats long.  You can set loop points wherever you want within a
clip.
When you play the clip, it will loop on its own time and cycle against
the beat in the same way.


ATC-Xi.  Yeah.  Juno-60.  Yeah yeah!  Good stuff.


The new Little Phatty arpeggiator can send out arpeggiated MIDI notes
to other hardware synths... and it syncs to MIDI clock.  Fun!
