This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
This isn't so much related to this post, but I
wanted to mention a band that I found recenlty on beatport.com. They are called;
TALC. If you enjoy "cheesy" 70's disco, or even Steely Dan/Foreinger/Styx(Mr.
Roboto), 80s type stuff, you will probably enjoy this group. Their music, while
it does sound 70s, 80s, has a fresh new sound to it(great use
of vocoders!) and the lyrics are very funny in some of the songs.
Check them out on ITunes or beatport.com. Website is:

OK, I'll admit to a guilty pleasure.
There's a prog band from the 70's called Starcastle. I think they were from
Illinois. Often accused of being a Yes rip-off band. Anyway, I really enjoy
their debut album. All the songs are about love and light, how uncool is that?
Wonderful vocal harmonies, spacey synthesizers and I love that Rickenbacker
bass! :-) Bill

Actually, that's a GREAT idea for a topic/thread...GUILTY PLEASURES! Music that no self-respecting card-carrying self-professed TRUE ambient believer would EVER admit to liking. So, it can't be something unambient but GOOD, it has to be something that yields a lot of "WTFs?" I know we ALL have Guilty Pleasures when it comes to films (come on, admit it, you like "Earth vs Flying Saucers") but how about music?
I'll gladly admit to a few:
I LOVE the Snoopy "trilogy" (the 1960s) from The Royal Guardsmen ("Snoopy vs The Red Baron," "The Return of the Red Baron" and "Snoopy's Christmas").
I think the Carpenters' version of "Superstar" (penned by Leon Russell) is one of the best songs recorded and it always make sigh thinking about all the lost loves of my teenage years. I even get misty at times.
And, yeah, I LOVE long drum solos...even "In a Gadda da Vida" (although I prefer Ginger Baker's live version of "Toad" from "Wheels of Fire"). In fact, at my senior prom (1972) me and a friend embarrassed our dates to death when we danced to a drum solo (played by a live band) in center court of the gym when prom was held! SPAZZ CITY!!!
Ahhhh. good times....good times indeed! :-)
OTOH, I'm probably the only person interested in something this lame. ;-)

Clearly we all listen to lots of different kinds of music. Bill touches on
something interesting... the pop contemporary stuff you liked that maybe you
dont like to admit or just sort of baffles you...
I have to admit to liking that Pink song "Get the party started" and some
Missy Elliot. some of that music just has an undeniable beat! But I'm not
going to buy it, or play it for a friend... you've got to draw the line
somewhere!

..., contemporary top 40 (I think I have liked one "popular" song in the
last five years, that being Justin Timberlake's "Sexy Back" and I have no
idea why I loved it)
