Re: (amb) What other music do you listen to?
Ambient is my late night music, almost exclusively. As a reviewer, though, =
I listen to it whenever my physical environment allows me the quiet and =
space to do so. But as a listener, I prefer it late at night, after my =
partner Kathryn has gone to bed and I am alone. For city driving, again =
unless I am in reviewing mode, I listen to "oldies" rock (see my earlier =
post). Classical is good Sunday morning making breakfast music since =
Kathryn enjoys it. The other genres =3D when I feel like them.=20
Now, when it comes to long distance highway trips, I mix in a lot of =
ambient (and new age), depending on the time of day and type of highway. I =
listen to LOTS of solo or ensemble acoustic guitar instrumental music when =
I am driving rural backroads in the daytime. Late at night, I listen to =
ambient (the more melancholic, the better), which puzzles people who think =
"Man, how do you stay awake driving at night listening to music that is =
supposed to relax you?" I can't answer that except at night, while driving =
on the highway (not freeways, which I tend to avoid anyway) ambient music =
does the opposite for me: it heightens my senses. I notice more. It puts =
in an alert, yet reflective contemplative state. I know it sounds hokey, =
but I feel like I become one with the car. Just cruisin'..............
Guess I need more therapy after all, LOL.

It seems as if a lot of people on this list actually listen to a pretty=20
wide variety of music (and most of it not even that similar to ambient).
What this makes me curious to know is how does ambient fit into the=20
listening schedule for most of you, as opposed to the other kinds of=20
music you listen to?
