Re: (amb) What other music do you listen to?
Classical: Vivaldi, Beethoven, Rossini, Holst, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, =
others
Jazz: all kinds...Metheny, Corea, Toots Thielman, swing, Guaraldi, Miles =
Davis, Stanley Turrentine, Kenny Burrell, pretty much anything except =
stuff like Sun Ra (atonal, dissonant, arrhythmic)
Rock: depends on my mood; eclectic mix from the 60s and 70s, e.g. Moody =
Blues, King Crimson, Blue Oyster Cult, It's a Beautiful Day, Mott the =
Hoople, T-Rex, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, et al. I picked up ON some alt =
rock in the 90s when I dated someone younger than me: Del Amitri, The =
Sundays, the late Kirsty MacColl, Everything But The Girl, Velocity Girl, =
Merchants of Venus, The Bangles, and synth pop such as Bananarama, Depeche =
Mode, Pet Shop Boys, OMD
Blues: both acoustic (Delta) and electric, artists like Rory Block, Debbie =
Davies, Sue Foley, Mem Shannon
Folk/Country: I don't EVER listen to mainstream country (exception being =
EARLY era Emmylou), but I do occasionally spin artists who crossover, such =
as Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, early Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter. =
I don't listen to anything like Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, etc etc etc.=20
Disco/R 'n B: Yeah, I like _some_ disco (good disco, and there is such a =
thing) and 60s/70s era r 'n' b like Earth Wind and Fire (before they got =
uber-popular, circa "Open Our Eyes"), early era Commodores, Stevie Wonder =
circa "Fulfillingness' First Finale" Eddie Kendricks, The OJays, etc. I =
bartended in a popular disco in downtown Milwaukee in 1974-1975.
Soundtracks: Partial to James Bond, SF, (Caroenter/Howarth's works) =
Goldsmith
As far as genres related to ambient, I listen to electronica, chill-out, =
Berlin school, new age, world and world fusion
What I NEVER listen to (not meant as a criticism of these genres, I simply =
have NEVER listened to them): grunge (the whole Seattle scene's popularity =
mystified me), metal or hair bands (not counting the early days of bands =
like BOC, Kiss, etc.), rap, hip-hop, techno (well, barely at all), =
mainstream country, contemporary top 40 (I think I have liked one =
"popular" song in the last five years, that being Justin Timberlake's =
"Sexy Back" and I have no idea why I loved it)
I'm forgetting some stuff, but that's close to it all.

I thought it would be interesting to hear what else people on this list =
listen to, and how many people stick mostly to ambient and closely related =
genres. And also, for fun, any types of music you absolutely would not =
listen to...
